Dr Premraj is a highly skilled engineer with extensive knowledge in both technical and commercial have worked at an executive level in several fields within the business. He has held group engineering director level roles with large FMCG companies and Procurement Director roles in the worlds largest brewer. He has a passion for developing solution to optimize the business and create value finding new ways of working and improved business and operational processes by applying lean principles and logical critical thinking. He has extensive Africa experience having worked and been responsible for the continent is these roles. He has years of procurement, engineering, manufacturing, risk and executive management experience from some of the largest manufacturers in South Africa ranging from BMW SA, SA Breweries, Eskom, AVI, Tiger Brands and recently ABinBev. He has held several senior leadership positions within these companies. Sanjay was the Regional Category Head for Africa within SABMiller responsible for Procurement of MRO, Premises and Facilities, fridges and CAPEX for the African Region and part of the leadership Team for procurement. In his last role, he was the Procurement Director for Africa Zone focusing on Supplier Development, Value engineering and cost reduction in an effort to de-risking the supply chain by localising supply and running a business incubator for the zone to improve supplier performance and reduce costs with spend under management of $ 750 million Opex and $811 million in Capex. Sanjay has in-depth and excellent knowledge in Procurement (CAPEX, MRO, indirects, Value Engineering, process optimization, capability development, change management, negotiations, strategic sourcing, strategy devolvement, cost optimisation,etc). Throughout his professional career, he has focused and evolved his career around improving business performance in companies. Sanjay’s ‘brand’ is based upon the use of incremental innovation, technical knowhow, the pursuit of quality standards (ISO, HACCP, etc), equipment efficiency, asset / process optimization and managing change management resulted in the creation of a dynamic vision and P&L improvements. He has successfully implemented this through strategic decision making, decisive leadership, effective procurement leadership, through efficient monitoring and controls using teamwork, discipline, ethics, motivation, individual training and development, developing strategies, solving problems and a dedication to success. From a technical and commercial point of view, Sanjay is a well-rounded individual who has in-depth knowledge and extensive experience with sound business acumen. From an education background, he has studied Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Durban-Westville and completed a Master of Science in engineering at the same university. He also holds a PhD in electrical engineering at UCT within the field of Energy Management and completed a national diploma in supply chain management specializing in procurement. He is registered as a professional engineer with ECSA and a member of SAIMechE. Sanjay’s passion, drive, analytical mind and determination to ensure success is a benefit to any organization. He is known as the ‘guru’ of problem solving and has a natural ability to lead, understand and work with people at all levels. His intuitive mind enables him to identify solutions quickly which is complemented by his flair for the unorthodox and sometimes counter intuitive thinking when required.
