I started as a freelancer at JWT in February 1998 for a 6 week contract. After freelancing for 3 weeks I was asked if I would join full time as a Traffic Co-Coordinator. I was promoted to Traffic Manager in May 2002. The values and job requirements set out at JWT was to become a new way of thinking and promoting values. Part of my duties were the following: Ensure quality and timely delivery of multiple projects simultaneously Manage client and colleague’s expectations Knowledge of resource estimation tools to prepare detailed plans, timelines, and resource allocation for complex projects Tailor management style to colleagues needs and expectations Ability to effectively manage difficult project team members Able to resolve conflict productively based on facts, understanding of different perspectives, and emotions; deal openly with conflict or avoid it, as the situation required Understand and anticipate different perspectives and respond and integrate them effectively Continuously look for efficient ways to promote positive morale and performance levels even during periods of intense pressure Stand up for what is right even in difficult situations and despite potential personal consequences J Walter Thompson instituted an Employee of the Year Award in 2002 and was honored to receive this in 2002. The Citizen runs a column called Media and Marketing and I was asked to write an article about my role in traffic. This article was published on 11 October 2003. I was asked to join the leadership team that has been instituted to enhance the communication between departments and to address any issues that may become problematic. Promoted to Head of Department in 2009. I then moved over to Quirk to understand the digital space for 2 1/2 years before moving into the corporate arena in order to obtain a full cycle of experience in the advertising and marketing areas.
