My name is Sisanda Palesa Dyantyi. I was born in Alice, Eastern Cape. Being from a small town with such rich history and heritage has influenced my love of storytelling. Before I had access to Dstv (cable TV) like my peers, I had my grandmother's stories and riddles. I think this is where my love for writing and creating came from. In high school I became very involved in Drama and Poetry. After much contemplating, I enrolled to study my passion, storytelling. This took its form in filmmaking. For four years I pursued a degree in directing and screenwriting and left AFDA an Honours graduate. In my time there, two of my films broke the province's barriers. My third year film, The Walk Home was on Showmax (2019) and was screened at ZIFF (Zanzibar International Film Festival); and my fourth year film, Isikhalo: The Outcry, made it onto the shortlist for the student Academy Awards and CILECT awards. Furthermore, it was screened at ARIFF (Africa Rising International Film Festival) late last year (2019). I am passionate about authentic African stories that also speak up on issues that are hardly placed on the film and television platform. Isikhalo, for example, focused on the issue of spousal rape and to show that that conversation was a ripe one to have - we made it onto the SABC news. I want to open the conversation about women and the intricacies that surround living as one in South Africa and Africa as a whole. I am also passionate about opening conversations about mental health, an avenue I feel is ripe for discussion and engagement. In 2019 I have had the pleasure and experience of working as an intern at Urban Brew Studios in Johannesburg; a job which I currently hold. I believe that I have learned skills outside of my comfort zone and have thrived. I am involved in production for Dumisa and OneGospel; I am also part of the team that has been working towards building and creating content for the upcoming OneGospel youtube channel. Additionally, I have been responsible for editing such content. On the admin side, I have been doing the duties of a production assistant – music cue sheets, call sheets, assist on shoots and general admin. I have also had the pleasure of training as a visual mixer (TV director); a skill I thrived in and learned quickly. As a result, I have been given an opportunity that has not been afforded to any intern – to direct a show independently (Hulisani). I have also visual mixed/directed various shows throughout the past year under the guidance of my assigned mentor. I am well versed in technical scripting, screenwriting and compiling presentations. My writing and articulation skills surpass expectations. I am fluent in Microsoft Office, Adobe Premier Pro as well as DaVinci Resolve 16. I bring passion and my enthusiasm brings a different energy to the table. As someone who is exposed and opened to many walks of life, I wish to be the one to tell many perspectives. I am hardworking, friendly, open to learning new things and open to constructive criticism. My work ethic as well as the work that I have done speaks for itself. I believe that I would truly be an asset to your team!
