I’ve worked as a journalist for 18 years and consequently have a variety of skills to offer. Some of my main responsibilities over the years included developing and repurposing content, from start to finish, for use across all digital platforms. I initiated, sourced, researched, did follow ups and provided accurate, high quality online content, for use across all editorial platforms. I reported, recorded and edited online content into compelling video pieces for use across digital platforms. I effectively used social media to break news and to engage with online audiences. I'm currently freelancing - sub-editing and reporting - but previously worked as the lead sub-editor at Seen, formerly known as Hashtag Our Stories. I’ve worked for eNCA's NewsLink and etv news and sport. I was responsible for editing and rewriting all copy for TV as well as the digital platforms. I worked closely with reporters and producers to refine their story angles. I also ensured their stories were well-balanced and free of grammatical, spelling and factual errors. I’ve worked as a multimedia journalist at the Weekend Argus, with my main tasks including, sourcing and writing stories on a wide range of topics, capturing pictures and videos as well as video editing. I also had a strong focus on ensuring an online presence through the various social media platforms. I have also worked as a copy sub-editor at the Cape Argus, with my main tasks including editing copy and layout. I often stood in for the morning chief sub, which meant I was responsible for managing the production of the afternoon edition of the newspaper. In addition, I have a long history of working in community newspapers as a journalist, photographer, copy sub-editor and layout artist. I’m a strong writer and placed in the top 10 in two national writing competitions in 2015 and 2008. I also have a wide range of contacts within and outside the media industry. My previous work history also includes stints as a graphic design artist and events coordinator. I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXpress, Mailchimp, Indesign and Canva. I consider myself an all-rounder with excellent time management and communications skills. I’m always keen to learn new skills to further my contribution and growth. Working in diverse environments over the years allowed me to adapt to various management styles, structures and people. I work well in a team, but also work well independently. I am a hard worker who understands and adheres to tight deadlines without compromising on the quality.
