My name is Umkhulu Chris Silere, and I’m a recent Computer Science graduate from the University of Fort Hare, honours level. I am currently on a journey to gain additional skills and knowledge that I believe are needed to make a success of my future career. One of my aspirations is to become an excellent software developer. Another is to learn how to conduct research, and therefore I am interested in pursuing a Master’s degree. From Apr 2019 - Mar 2021, in preparation for postgraduate studies, I was an intern at a research group from the North-West University through the National Research Foundation (NRF). Multilingual Speech Technologies (MuST, http://www.******.*** is a group affiliated with the NWU Faculty of Engineering, whose work focuses on Deep Learning, both from a theoretical point of view, as well the application of these techniques in various domains. During my internship, I have learnt a great deal in upskilling my programming skills and have gained interest in their line of work. One project, in particular, I collaborated on was MuST’s deep-learning toolkit which is called mustnet, a codebase for training, testing and analysing Deep Neural Networks (DNNs).
