My name is Yashen Raghavjee. I am a Business Science Finance (Hons) and Economics graduate from the University of Cape Town. I have successfully completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) level 1 and level 2 exams on my first attempt and have written level 3 in June 2019. Should I be successful, I would have completed all three levels in an 18-month period and would have built my foundation for a career in the finance industry. I am currently a Retail Client Services Consultant at Coronation Fund Managers and have been in this position since January 2018. This position has greatly enhanced my knowledge of the asset management industry due to the fact that I am obligated to answer any questions that investors or potential investors may have with regards to the performance of specific funds and the current state of the market. Due to this, I am constantly on top of the market and up to date with day to day events of changes in market sentiment, company news and SENS announcements, as well as macroeconomic conditions that would affect companies using a top down approach. I feel that I have gained all the experience possible from being a consultant in this position and that I am now equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to move forward to the next stage and join an investment team. An analyst position is appealing to me as it would allow me to follow my passion as well as develop practical experience to back the theoretical experience (Finance Honours and CFA) that I already have behind me. In addition to this, it will start building towards the four years of practical experience that is needed in order to become a CFA charterholder. I have used the Bloomberg and I – Net terminals previously and thus have knowledge of navigating through these systems. I humbly believe that I have the necessary qualifications to be a part of your investment team. In addition to this, I believe that I have the social skills to match the performance driven culture of your company. Being a first year consultant in 2018, where the JSE ALSI shed 8.53% and the majority of balanced and equity funds moved into the negative, I was pushed to the extent of dealing with angry clients on a daily basis due to tens of thousands of Rands being shed off their portfolios, whilst still managing to maintaining an extremely high client satisfaction rating. I thus feel that I am equipped with the social skills necessary to deal with any situation that may be thrown at me. I am looking for a position in which I can base myself for years ahead, meaning that I am looking to become a long term member of the investment team and work my way up until portfolio manager. By considering me for this position, you can consider it a long term investment as I feel that with my current knowledge and skills, I am highly discounted to my intrinsic value, if you want to put it in investment terms. If I am offered an interview for this position, I believe that I shall be able to prove this.
